If your goal is to bulk up, you can find some comfort in the fact that you’re not the only person in your position. Bulking up is an important part of training and staying in shape for many athletes football players, boxers and hockey players usually have to build up their bodies in order to remain competitive and safe within their fields. So we can use some of their techniques for our goal which is to bulk up in a healthy way that doesn’t cause any harm to our bodies.
With that being said, one of the exercises that many athletes use to add mass to their frame is known as the deadlift. Many people know that deadlifting builds power. However, some people ask the question are deadlifts good for bulking up? The answer to this question is yes.
Why are Deadlifts Good for Building Mass?
When the deadlift movement is executed it requires a heavy weight to be lifted from the ground to the hips. Once the weight is brought up to the hips it is then lowered back to the ground. When this movement is carried out it builds up the major muscle groups within the body.
The core muscle groups that the deadlift works and develops include the lower back, glutes and abdominals.
Other parts of the body such as the triceps, biceps and pectorals get worked to and are of course positively affected by this exercise.
How does Deadlift Build up a Person’s Body?
The weight that is used in a deadlift routine forces all of the muscles in thes body to assist with the lift. Deadlift reps involve a lot of heavy weight that force you to use all of your strength to manage the extra amount of mass. As a person works through a deadlift rep they are literally tearing down muscle and building it back up.
Once form has been corrected and practised appropriately, deadlift routines should be performed safely with 3/4 of your body weight in order to be effective. This means that a 160 pound person should use 120 pounds when they are performing a deadlift routine. This is the only way that a person will be able to start to add more mass to their frame.
As you progress through the routine you can then start to add more pounds to add more mass.
How can Women Benefit from Deadlifting?
Women can also benefit from deadlifting weights. When a female performs a deadlift routine she should not to expect to bulk-up like a man. The reason why women do not get as big as men is due to the lack of testosterone. Women do not have this hormone and so the chances of a woman looking like a she hulk are pretty slim. A woman’s legs, abdominal muscles, glutes and lower back is all developed with the use of deadlfting. As a matter of fact a woman can use a deadlift routine to add curves to her body.
Proper Deadlift Technique
When you perform a deadlift routine, you should make sure that you stand in front of the proper amount of weight with your legs spread apart at shoulder length. Then grip the bar with their inner forearms touching the outer parts of the thighs. An overhand or underhand grip can be used to move the weight, most people use the overhand technique.
Then, look directly in front of you while keeping your back straight. Shoulders should be held back and not rounded. Chest must also be positioned forward and not down. Tighten the shoulder and squeeze the glutes and then lift the weight. Make sure that the hips and shoulders are ascending at the same time. The bar must remain in contact with the body as the lift is being performed. Once the weight is at hip length the process should be reversed and lowered to the floor in a controlled manner. The weight should not hit the floor or bounce.
In conclusion, the deadlift is one of best exercises for bulking up the body. This exercise can be used with bench pressing and squatting for maximal results. Many professional body builders and professional athletes do claim that deadlifting is the ultimate way for any person to bulk up their frame, whether male or female.
